The Yaoundé Bulls and Douala Black Boys have both recorded victories in the opening round of the 2018 Cameroon Rugby League XIII National Championship played in Yaoundé on Sunday.
The historic opening round, which also featured the first Junior National Nines Challenge match and the Yaoundé Women’s Academy team, kicked off what promises to be an exciting year for Rugby League in the Central African nation.
In the lower grades, the Black Boys of Douala defeated the Hevecam S.A. Nyeté Bulls team 6 – 0, whilst the Yaoundé Bulls Juniors took on the Cameroon Women’s Academy team (Yaoundé Raiders) in a Gala Match after Institut Petou had difficulties with their junior team.
In the Open Age National Championship, the Bulls scored the only points in the all Yaoundé derby, defeated Institut Petou 4 – 0, whilst the Douala team defeated Bandjoun 12 – 0.
Commenting on the opening round, Cameroon Rugby League XIII Chairman Samuel Taylou thanked everyone who had helped make the opening round possible including the partners and various participants.
